Roanoke Marshes Replica Lighthouse, Roanoke Island, NC

The smallest and newest lighthouse on the Outer Banks

by Samantha Fien-Helfman | January 11, 2012

The Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse is both the smallest and newest lighthouse on the Outer Banks. This replica lighthouse was modeled after the original 1877 lighthouse, which was decommissioned in 1955 and sold to a Mr. Wiggins. The structure was lost in the sound when Mr. Wiggins attempted to move it to his private property. The original still remains at the bottom the sound.

The replica, which currently stands on the east side of Roanoke …

Nags Head Hammocks doesn’t only boast a slogan about relaxing—their entire store and approach reflects this mentality.  Since its inception in 1974, Nags Head Hammocks has provided long lasting and gorgeous outdoor furniture handcrafted in North Carolina. Even if you’re not in the market to buy anytime soon, I still recommend visiting one of their five factory stores, where friendly employees encourage you to test out the hammocks and relax in their furniture.
